The Path of Water

2,100

I will walk the earth from edge to edge,
leaving my footprints for those who follow,
until I reach the sea.

I will find my path
upon a single great wave,
that will take me to the edge of the sky.

Then it will disappear,
so that no one can follow.
Every journey must discover its own water.

As I was walking at the shore, I thought that the earth remembers every step you take. Your footprints stay behind you, marking the way you came, visible to anyone who follows.

The water remembers nothing – or not?

Sometimes I feel that every wave that touches your feet is new. There is no path already drawn beneath the surface, no trail left by those who walked here before you. You make the way as you go, one step at a time, and the moment you take it, it’s already gone – folded back into the sea, ready to become something else.

That’s what I wanted this painting to hold. Not a fixed road, but a moving one. A path you can’t retrace, only take.

Some journeys are like the earth — they leave a record. Others are like the water. They exist only in the walking.
